WHAT IS ACA?

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was signed in to law in 2010. Commonly referred to as simply ACA or Obamacare, the act was created to reduce the uninsured rate by expanding coverage availability using both public and private insurance, increase the quality and affordability of healthcare insurance, and cut costs associated with healthcare for consumers.

WHO DOES IT IMPACT?

All employers who had 50 full-time or full-time equivalent employees in 2014 must comply with the ACA requirements. Additionally, employers with less than 50 full time equivalent employees, BUT WHO OFFER HEALTH INSURANCE THROUGH A SELF-INSURED, EMPLOYER SPONSORED PLAN, also have some requirements under ACA.

WHAT EFFECT DOES IT HAVE?

ACA impacts the employer in three broad categories:

Icon Measurement

Measurement:

Paid hours and certain types of unpaid leave for all employees, both full time and part time.

Icon Affordability

Affordability:

Ensuring the lowest cost of self-only coverage meets ACA requirements.

Icons Reporting

Reporting:

Providing forms 1094 to the government, and forms 1095 to the government and to effected employees.
